British stage and screen actor Gareth Hunt, best known for his role in The New Avengers, has died of cancer aged 65. Starting out with the RSC, he secured a number of TV jobs before a regular role on Upstairs Downstairs and later the programme that made him famous. He also appeared on Doctor Who, Space 1999, Minder and Eastenders at various points in his career. On film, he appeared in such cult items as Licensed to Love and Kill (a James Bond spoof), The World is Full of Married Men, Bloodbath at the House of Death (the Kenny Everett parody), and Pet Shop Boys film It Couldn't Happen Here. Another film, The Riddle, is due out this year. |
