Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is proud to announce the release of The Pedro Almodóvar Collection on January 30, 2007. The boxed set will include eight of Almodóvar’s most popular films including All About My Mother, Talk to Her and Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown plus new to DVD titles Matador and Law of Desire and a bonus disc of special features. All eight films were recently reissued theatrically in limited release by Sony Pictures Classics.
The winner of two Academy Awards (2002 Best Original Screenplay, Talk to Her; 1999 Best Foreign Language Film, All About My Mother), Almodóvar’s films blend art-house sensitivities with an appeal to popular taste. Spain’s most influential director, Almodóvar specializes in films focusing on unusual relationships that occur amid improbable circumstances. He further heightens the tension (and the comedy) through the judicious use of melodrama and high camp.
The films included in this collection represent the breadth of Almodóvar’s work and showcase his skill with international actors including Penelope Cruz, Gael García Bernal, Antonio Banderas, Javier Bardem and Geraldine Chaplin. The special features on the bonus disc will include three featurettes: “Deconstructing Pedro,” “Experiencing Almodóvar,” and “Viva Pedro.” All eight films in The Pedro Almodóvar Collection will be presented in the original Spanish with English subtitles.
