The Sopranos: Series Six DVD (out now) prepares fans for the final 8 additional episodes which will see the much-anticipated conclusion of this gangster masterpiece (set to air in 2007).
Series Six sees Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini) face a new set of challenges when the personal and professional adventures of his life grow increasingly more complicated. He and Carmela face the reality that their kids are no longer children, but still not yet grown. And with rival boss Johnny Sack (Vince Curatola) in prison, the always-tense relations between the New Jersey and New York families are strained even further through the unpredictable behaviour of Sack’s surrogates. Then there are the inevitable power struggles that ensue when certain family members are eliminated, by natural and other causes.
Flitting from reality to a dream-like parallel universe, Tony Soprano is in intensive care anxiously being watched over by Carmela and Meadow, following Junior’s fit of paranoia. Out on the streets Silivo reluctantly takes over the reigns of the Soprano empire but it is not long before Tony is back in the conscious world and dishing out orders from his hospital bed. Series Six is a roller coaster ride from the East Coast’s most famous gangsters, David Chase’s screen play takes us through Allegra Sack’s wedding, Vito being finally outed (when he’s spotted in a local gay bar), Carlo’s promotion and a real Italian Christmas, all interspersed with arguments, shootouts and fights.
