Three bachelors share the same apartment in Paris: cartoonist Michel, architect Pierre, and air steward Jacques, who has asked his mates to look after a delivery that will arrive whilst he's away. When they find a baby girl, Marie, on the doorstep, they assume she's the eagerly awaited parcel. Soon they find themselves pursued by drug dealers and cops alike, all eager for the real 'package'. And then Marie's mother returns from her travels and takes her daughter away. Despite all efforts to return to their womanising ways, our three bachelors pine for those sleepless nights and nappies.
Director Coline Serreau's blend of farce and drama was a box-office smash in France, winning two Cesar awards and gaining an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Language film. She went on to adapt the script for the American remake and its sequel Three Men and a Little Lady. Made during the 80's, it's a gallic look at the emerging caring new man but from a woman's perspective. It stars Roland Giraud, Michel Boujenah (Les Clefs de Bagnole), and Andre Dusollier (the narrator in Amélie and more recently seen in Lemming) in the role played by Ted Danson in the Hollywood version. Three Men And A Baby is sure to add a little continental mirth into those nappy-changing nights.
DVD extras include: interview with Coline Serreau; behind the scenes featurettes with cast. It will be available from Tartan on the 27th of February priced £19.99.
