  Farewell Jack Palance
  Cult star dies aged 87
Cult star Jack Palance, one of the great villainous actors in the movies, has died of natural causes at the age of 87. After a spell as a boxer and a pilot in World War II, he began a career in film and television making his big screen debut in minor classic thriller Panic in the Streets. For Sudden Fear, just his third film, he was Oscar-nominated, as he was for one of his most celebrated roles as the evil gunfighter in classic western Shane.

Other films included camp favourite The Silver Chalice, Hollywood melodrama The Big Knife, war thriller Attack, Jean-Luc Godard's Le Mépris, western The Professionals, horror Torture Garden, Jess Franco's Justine, playing an unlikely Fidel Castro in Che!, sex comedy The Sensuous Nurse, sci-fi weirdness Welcome to Blood City, another camp favourite Hawk the Slayer, horror Alone in the Dark, western Young Guns, quiet drama Bagdad Cafe, blockbuster Batman, actioner Tango & Cash, and the film for which he finally won his Oscar, comedy City Slickers - his one-handed pressups at the ceremony became legendary. He will be missed.
