Adrienne Shelly, who gained a cult following through her appearances in America's independent movie scene, has been found dead in her apartment, an apparent suicide which turns out to be murder. She was only 40. She rose to recognition in Hal Hartley's dramas The Unbelievable Truth and Trust, and went on to appear in Hexed, Hold Me Kiss Me Thrill Me, Sleep With Me and Factotum, among others. She was also a writer and director in her own right, with new film Waitress soon to be released.
