Tartan DVD Box Sets [read more]
  Something to raise the tone
Tartan Video is set to release two boxed editions in November representing two of the most imaginative directors of contemporary world cinema. They provide not only a whole wealth of extras but also offer special gift ideas for the approaching festive season.

Complete Ingmar Bergman Collection
A director of international stature, Tartan has been releasing nearly all of his work from his debut feature Crisis, to his most recent work, Saraband. Now his lifetime of achievement is presented in a specially designed collectable limited edition boxset, offering 37 hours of essential Bergman viewing. It consists of 30 discs, including two previously unreleased titles: Dreams (1955) where a fashion editor and model both reflect on past lovers, and Farodokument ’79, an affectionate tribute to the Faro islanders of his adopted home. Many of the films from The Virgin Spring onwards serve as a fitting tribute to the late cinematographer, Sven Nykvist, Bergman’s most trusted close collaborator, who also worked with Woody Allen and Lasse Hallström. All films are presented in original Academy ratio, except Saraband which has an anamorphic widescreen presentation. A 64-page booklet written by film historian David Parkinson is also included. Retailing at £299.00, it’s the perfect collector’s gift for true film connoisseurs, and is released on the 28th of November.

Also released: Wong Kar-Wai Collection
Since his first feature, As Tears Go By, Hong Kong director Wong Kar-Wai has become one of the great auteurs in contemporary world cinema. His idiosyncratic and romantic tales of Hong Kong’s young and disenfranchised are guaranteed to dazzle the senses and warm the heart, this 3-disc box set includes the Cantonese versions of As Tears Go By (featuring a commentary by Richard Jobson) and Days of Being Wild, both available for the first time on DVD. 2046 contains tartan exclusive interview with Wong Kar-Wai; interview with Zhang Ziyi; behind the scenes featurette; Casta Diva music video. Wong Kar-Wai boxset is available on retail DVD only (rrp £34.99) from the 13th of November.
