Last year New Zealand director Mark Prebble earned a small place in film history with the ground breaking completion of his first feature film Futile Attraction. Now the Portobello Film Festival proudly hosts the UK Premiere on Saturday August 19 (it's a free one off screening is at Westbourne Studios - 2pm.)
Mark directed and edited the low budget comedy but ran out of money for the final stages of post-production. After traditional funding methods didn't work, he turned to the internet creating a website called www.makemarksmovie.com which allowed people around the world to contribute money online and get their names in the credits of the finished film. It worked and is believed to be the first film completed using this method.
Futile Attraction is a mocumentary comedy about a film crew making a Reality TV show about a couple brought together by a dating agency. However the couple are so incompatible that the crew have to manipulate the couple to get the footage they need.
