MUBI, the global streaming service, production company and film distributor has announced that it will be launching an English-language, print-only magazine titled NOTEBOOK, beginning with a limited edition Issue 0, For the Cinema to Come, available in November 2021. From 2022, NOTEBOOK will be published twice a year, with Issue 1 coming spring 2022.
Issue 0 will have a limited print run and will be exclusively available to MUBI subscribers. Priced at £12, including worldwide shipping, the first issue can be pre-ordered here. Issue 0 will come with a limited edition MUBI tote bag designed for the launch.
NOTEBOOK aims to provide a diverse curation of writing, photographs, original translations, and other unique material to illuminate what makes film exciting, moving, and relevant. With a design-forward approach, featuring renowned international writers and filmmakers and artists who are at the forefront of international cinema, the magazine is a showcase for experimental, reflective, and surprising approaches to film culture.
NOTEBOOK magazine is edited by Daniel Kasman and features different and exclusive editorial to the online publication, which launched in 2007 when MUBI was founded. NOTEBOOK is developed, designed and published in-house at MUBI, with Davide Cazzaro serving as the magazine’s Editorial and Publishing Manager and Pablo Martin as Creative Director.
Highlights from NOTEBOOK Issue 0 include an intergenerational conversation between Mike Leigh and Shiva Baby director Emma Seligman, a masterclass presented by Apichatpong Weerasethakul, which takes readers through a journey of personal photography, plus a discussion between Wes Anderson and The New Yorker’s writer and editor Susan Morrison, featuring an original introduction from Morrison. Also exclusive to the magazine will be a dialogue about running art movie theaters independently, and during a pandemic, between the exhibitors of Milan's Cinema Beltrade and Dubai's Cinema Akil.
