Veteran Italian actress Alida Valli, best known for her role in the classic The Third Man, has died. She gained fame for appearances the Carol Reed film and in Hitchcock's The Paradine Case, but quickly returned to Italian and French speaking films when her English language career didn't take off. Among her other films were Luchino Visconti's Senso, Georges Franju's cult classic Eyes Without A Face, Bernardo Bertolucci's The Spider's Stratagem and 1900, and Dario Argento's horror favourites Suspiria and Inferno.
