Dominic Dromgoole, former Artistic Director of The Globe Theatre, film director and producer (Making Noise Quietly, Benjamin) is directing and producing a feature film to coincide with the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's Folio in 2023 - the publication of the first full collection of Shakespeare's plays, including the previously unpublished Macbeth, Julius Caesar, Twelfth Night and the Tempest.
FOLIO! FOLIO! Has been written by Richard Bean and Clive Coleman, whose film The Duke played at the Venice Film Festival last year. The film will begin shooting Summer 2022 & casting will be announced at a later date. The comedy is set in 17th century England, following the death of William Shakespeare and tells the story of the playwright's friends John Heminges and Henry Condell who join forces to collate and publish the first Folio of Shakespeare’s finest works. This groundbreaking edition saved half his plays from oblivion.
A website dedicated to the Folio - folio400.com - has launched this week. It is a unique celebration of the making of the Folio, and an invaluable gift and resource for students and lovers of Shakespeare. The website has been conceived, created and produced by Marcus Coles in collaboration with Dromgoole and Folio expert Professor Emma Smith of Hertford College, University of Oxford.
It features audio performances from many acclaimed actors including Gemma Arterton as Lady Macbeth, Noma Dumezweni as Cleopatra, Roger Allam as Leontes and Simon Russell Beale voicing Ulysses from Troilus and Cressida. The website also features: Dafne Keen, Kobna Holdbrook Smith, Joe Marcell, Michelle Terry, Anjana Vasan, Jamie Parker, Pearce Quigley, Jack Farthing and Peter Hamilton Dyer. Dafne Keen makes her Shakespeare debut performing Juliet.
