Following its launch in March, The Icon Film Channel on Amazon Prime Video has launched eight new titles including Alice Lowe's acclaimed horror-comedy Prevenge, Dave Bautista action hit Bushwick and documentary I Am Big Bird, about Sesame Street puppeteer Carroll Spinney. See the trailer at the link above.
More new titles are due to launch on the channel every month, with acclaimed Italian mafia thriller Suburra and moving documentary Do I Sound Gay? coming in June and July, among many others.
PREVENGE (Alice Lowe, Kate Dickie, Kavyan Novak) -
A pitch black, wryly British comedy from the mind of Alice Lowe, Prevenge follows Ruth, a pregnant woman on a killing spree but it's her misanthropic unborn baby dictating Ruth's actions, holding society responsible for the absence of a father. The child speaks to Ruth from the womb, coaching her to lure and ultimately kill her unsuspecting victims. Struggling with her conscience, loneliness, and a strange strain of prepartum madness, Ruth must ultimately choose between redemption and destruction at the moment of motherhood. Having shown at Venice, Toronto and the London International Film Festival, Prevenge marked the directorial debut from Lowe, who writes, directs, and acts in the film during her own real-life pregnancy.
BUSHWICK (Dave Bautista, Brittany Snow) -
Lucy (Brittany Snow), a young woman on her way home from graduate school, emerges from a Brooklyn subway to find that her neighbourhood, Bushwick, is under attack by black-clad military soldiers. Her boyfriend dies in an explosion, sending her into the chaos of the invasion alone. When she is attacked by two thugs, ex-Marine Stupe (Dave Bautista) intervenes, and the two are thrown together amid the chaos of grenade explosions and armed looters. The destruction from Brooklyn to Manhattan continues to spread, as Stupe captures and unmasks a soldier, whom they are shocked to discover is American. As America declares war on itself, Lucy and Stupe must fight local gangs, survive riots, and continued attacks from the invading soldiers to make it out of Bushwick alive.
I AM BIG BIRD (Jim Henson, Frank Oz) -
Combining compelling interviews with fellow puppeteer cronies and fascinating material from Carroll Spinney's personal archives, I Am Big Bird illuminates the dynamic portrait of an unknown man whose Sesame Street characters, Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch, have influenced generations of children. An icon of popular culture for over 40 years, beak and feathers weaving a path through American history; Carroll's stories are the stuff of legend. And, as the yellow feathers give way to grey hair, it is the man, not the puppet, who will steal your heart.
HUNGRY HEARTS (Adam Driver, Alba Rohrwacher) -
New York City newlyweds Jude and Mina have a seemingly perfect relationship, but things take an unsettling turn after the birth of their son. Convinced that the baby must be kept free of all contaminants, Mina develops fanatical obsessions with veganism, cleanliness, and purity that may kill the child unless Jude can stop her in time. Starring Adam Driver and Alba Rohrwacher, Hungry Hearts is an unnerving and gripping psychological thrill-ride. |
