  Another Romero Classic... [read more]
When there's no more room in Hell
The bleakness and gore that many felt was missing from George A Romero's recent Land of the Dead is to be found in Day of the Dead; the third part of his Zombie quadrilogy. Finally the UK gets a special edition DVD of this arresting zombie epic in a two-disc release from Arrow Films/Fremantle Home Entertainment that includes an all new world exclusive commentary track.

The walking dead have now taken over the world and only small pockets of human resistance survive. The motley crew that this movie concentrates on run the risk of destroying themselves even before the undead can get to them. They consist of a handful of scientists and soldiers holed up in a 14-mile long underground missile silo. While the scientists experiment on the zombies to try and find a way to control them, the soldiers become increasingly impatient with the lack of results. This tension spills into violence that is only overshadowed by the zombie slaughter that surrounds them.

Day of the Dead (cert. 18) will be released on DVD (£15.99) by Arrow Films/Fremantle Home Entertainment on 27th March 2006. The film is presented in 16:9 anamorphic widescreen with a choice of 5.1 Dolby Digital or 2.0 Stereo sound mixes. Extra features include: world exclusive commentary with Special Effects team of Greg Nicotero, Howard Berger, Everett Burrell and Mike Deak, The Many Days of the Dead (new documentary), Day of the Dead – Behind the Scenes, Filmographies for Romero and Savini, Photo Galleries and the original theatrical trailers for Night, Dawn and Day of the Dead.
