Celebrate Shakespeare's birthday weekend with The Winter's Tale

The RSC are excited to announce that The Winter's Tale will be broadcast on BBC Four on Sunday 25 April at 7pm.

The Winter's Tale was in its final stages before opening in 2020 when the Covid-19 pandemic closed our theatres. We are thrilled that we are able to finally share this production with you, which has been reimagined for the screen. Directed by Erica Whyman, this has been performed and filmed on the Royal Shakespeare Theatre stage.

Set across a 16-year span from the 1953 coronation to the moon landings, this production imagines a world where the ghosts of fascist Europe collide with horrors reminiscent of The Handmaid's Tale, before washing up on a joyful seashore.

Following the premiere broadcast on BBC Four, The Winter's Tale will then be available on iPlayer.

As you join them for this special broadcast, please consider making a donation to help them recover and reopen fully. Every gift will enable others to enjoy the magic of Shakespeare and live theatre.
