The nominations for next year's Golden Globe awards have been annnounced.... fairly predictable stuff, but since 2002 has generally been a good year for offbeat Hollywood cinema, there are a few interesting choices. Spike Jonze's surreal second film Adaptation receives six nods (especially surprising considering The Two Towers has only got two), including Best Movie Comedy or Musical, Best Actor (Nicolas Cage), and Best Director for Jonze. Adam Sandler is acknowledged for his terrific work in PT Anderson's Punch-Drunk Love, while Martin Scorsese's epic Gangs Of New York has four nominations. Could this be the start of a road that finally ends in a Best Director Oscar for Scorsese? Probably not, but you never know....
