The death of Daria Nicolodi was announced yesterday; no cause was given. She studied in Rome and broke into movies in 1970, but it was her collaboration with giallo expert Dario Argento in Deep Red that put her on the horror fans' radar. They would go on to team up, both romantically and professionally (though they never married) on Suspiria (which she co-wrote and inspired), Inferno, Tenebre, Phenomena and Opera, all of which became cult favourites. Other movies she appeared in were Mario Bava's Shock, Lamberto Bava's Delirium, Paganini Horror, The Sect, her daughter Asia Argento's Scarlet Diva, and her final film, Dario's The Mother of Tears. It's safe to say without her, Argento's work would be very diffferent. |
