Richard Pryor, possibly the most brilliant stand up comedian of his generation, has finally lost his battle with multiple sclerosis at the age of 65. Marked by a disarming candour in his humour, his film career took off in the seventies with hits like Lady Sings the Blues, Car Wash, Silver Streak and Stir Crazy, but he also had appeared in cult successes from the sixties onwards: Wild in the Streets, Dynamite Chicken, blaxploitation favourite The Mack, Some Call It Loving, Blue Collar and David Lynch's Lost Highway. His stand up movie Richard Pryor Live in Concert is acknowledged as one of the finest ever made. And he wrote Blazing Saddles, too. |
