In a brand new clip released today from David Attenborough: A Life On Our Planet, the legendary broadcaster reflects on the changes he has witnessed to the natural world during the course of his lifetime - and the loss to our planet’s precious biodiversity as a result of human actions. Watch the clip at the link above.
The clip features breath-taking footage of the natural world as Attenborough illustrates the intricate web of dependencies between all living things in order to sustain a healthy planet. "We rely entirely on this finely tuned life support machine", he explains, "and it relies on its biodiversity to run smoothly".
However, as footage cuts to a longstanding tree being demolished in the middle of a forested region, Attenborough states that the way we humans live on earth is sending biodiversity into a decline.
The film follows recent news from WWF's Living Planet Report that populations of mammals, birds, fish, reptiles and amphibians have declined on average by 68% since 1970; while at the same time the world has failed to hit any of its 20 biodiversity targets for the decade, according to the United Nations.
