Rakuten TV in June [read more]
  Keep watching
Rakuten TV has a whole host of new releases coming to the platform this June, available in 4K HDR, to keep you entertained at the click of a button on your Smart TV.

This month’s selection includes a 4-time Oscar winner, a cinematic supernatural thriller and stunning adaptations of literary classics - ensuring every viewer has choice to suit whatever their mood.

The film that everyone has been talking about - Parasite - is new to the platform this month. The South Korean satire, which made Oscars history as the first foreign language film to win the Best Picture statuette is a beautifully made black comedy turned thriller. As greed and class discrimination threaten the relationship between the wealthy Park family and the poverty-stricken family, the Kim's, we watch the under-privileged family go to war with their rich and conceited opposites in a gripping and compelling story.

Rakuten TV is also bringing in 4K HDR The Personal History of David Copperfield to the platform this June. Based on the classic Charles Dickens tale, this adaptation, directed by the typically inventive Armando Iannucci, feels modern and contemporary while remaining faithful to the Dickensian themes set in Victorian England. Boasting an impressive cast including Dev Patel, Hugh Lawrie, Benedict Wong, Tilda Swinton and Gwendoline Christie, this film is a dramatic, larger than life story of self-discovery. Copperfield's (Patel) journey to becoming a gentleman takes him on a series of different adventures travelling through poverty and relative wealth and encountering a myriad of characters along the way. An uplifting title and a film for all ages.

Emma, the wonderful re-telling of Austen's romantic comedy set in Regency England, is a visual treat for the eyes with its exceptional set design and beautiful period costumes. Emma is the clever, beautiful, albeit spoilt, heroine who, through sheer boredom, uses her wit and position in society to play mischievous matchmaker and manipulate the relationships of her acquaintances for her own amusement. But her meddling soon leads to consequences and her own romantic misadventures. Rising star Anya Taylor-Joy takes on the lead role in this witty and sumptuous film, alongside a stellar supporting cast including Bill Nighy, Rupert Graves and Miranda Hart - the perfect companions for romantic comedy fans. Available in 4K HDR.

For those looking for something to make the spine tingle, science fiction and horror fans are in for a treat with The Invisible Man in 4K HDR. Elisabeth Moss stars as Cecilia, the traumatized girlfriend of violent abuser Adrian, who believes she is free of his torment when he dies by apparent suicide. But all is not what it seems when she soon discovers Adrian isn't really dead. Instead, the powerful scientist has staged his own death and found a way to become invisible to continue to terrorize her. And when no-one believes her, she decides to take matters into her own hands and fight back. This tense thriller filled with terrifying moments and plenty of dark twists will keep you on the edge of your seat. Try the trailer at the link.
