Stuart Gordon, who toiled in low budget horror and genre movies to create a cult classic body of work, has died, it has been announced. His first love was theatre, which he would return to many times between the movies, but he also gifted the world eighties favourite Re-Animator, a perverse, hilarious and transgressive adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft, and probably his most celebrated work.
Other films included From Beyond (also starring Barbara Crampton who had gained screen immortality in his debut), Dolls, Robot Jox, The Pit and the Pendulum remake, Fortress, Castle Freak, Space Truckers, more Lovecraft with Dagon, King of the Ants, drama Edmond and his last theatrical feature, based on a true story Stuck. Also on his CV were the script for Honey, I Shrunk the Kids and a Re-Animator musical. A true original. |
