  The Bishop's Wife [read more]
  Twinkly as fairy lights
THIS CHRISTMAS, it's time to catch up on a true seasonal classic on the big screen and have the ideal excuse not to have to write about It's A Wonderful Life yet again! Cary Grant, Loretta Young and David Niven head up the sparkling star cast in the heartwarming, Oscar-winning fantasy THE BISHOP'S WIFE in a wonderful big screen revival.

A rare chance to rediscover this overlooked festive film treasure, THE BISHOP'S WIFE will be showing in Showcase Cinemas this December for a limited engagement.

An angel, in human form, comes to Earth to help out a bishop who is involved in a desperate fundraising appeal to build a cathedral. The bishop, troubled and distracted by his financial concerns, has been cut off from his wife and parishioners - a state of affairs the suave angel intends to put straight, in the face of jealousies, misunderstandings and mishaps.

Jauntily scored, and handsomely mounted with snow-sprinkled sets shot with pristine black and white cinematography, this ‘frothily touching comedy’ (Time Out), produced by none other than legendary producer Samuel Goldwyn (A Star Is Born), was nominated for five Oscars (including Best Picture), and won one.

And if there's a certain sparkle in the script, who knows, it might be down to the legendary duo Billy Wilder and Charles Brackett (Sunset Boulevard) having an uncredited hand in the writing of the film.

Be sure to catch this vintage delight as it lights up a Showcase screen near you - it'll warm your heart from the winter chill, and is guaranteed to make you leave the cinema with a feelgood glow. Watch the trailer at the link.
