Marking the 25th anniversary since the early death in 1994 of its legendary director, the fiercely independent Lindsay Anderson, this very special screening is followed by a conversation with award-winning writer (and great admirer) Jonathan Coe, alongside the film's editor David Gladwell. The afternoon is curated and hosted by Gareth Evans, Adjunct Moving Image Curator, Whitechapel Gallery.
The second film in Anderson's remarkable state-of-the-nation Mick Travis trilogy, all written by the late David Sherwin, is a remarkably relevant and prescient allegorical attack on unfettered Capitalism, a music-driven satire that is truly unique and unforgettable.
Jonathan Coe is the multi award winning writer of many novels, including The Rotters' Club, The House of Sleep, What a Carve Up! and Middle England, as well as a biography of B.S. Johnson. David Gladwell is the legendary editor of Ways of Seeing, If...., O Lucky Man! and Nineteen Nineteen, among many others, and a film-maker, best known for Requiem for a Village and Memoirs of a Survivor. |
