The death of Julie Adams was announced today; she will always be remembered as the object of desire for one of the movies' most famous monsters, The Creature from the Black Lagoon, famously escaping his clutches as he swam below her in the lagoon of the title.
She had a lengthy career, but this would be her defining role, and gave her a cult cachet where she would be looked out for by fans in other roles on film and television. Some of those included Anthony Mann's Bend of the River, The Lawless Breed with her friend Rock Hudson, loads of TV Western series, Tickle Me with Elvis Presley, Dennis Hopper's cause celebre The Last Movie, horror Psychic Killer, Catchfire, another Hopper effort, and Oliver Stone's World Trade Center. Renowned for her beauty and a popular socialite and keen conservationist away from the camera, her place in screen history is secure. |
