Success seems almost perfect for high-flying businesswoman and mother of two Emmanuelle Blachey (Emmanuelle Devos: Coco Before Chanel, Read My Lips) until a powerful and influential women’s network encourage her to run for a position at France's leading water company and be the first female CEO of a company in the French Stock Exchange's elite. In a world essentially led by men, Emmanuelle must fight to get to the top, risking everything in the process. As she struggles to balance family life with work, strategic relationships and business power plays start to take over her life.
Tonie Marshall is one of France's most popular directors and screenwriters. She wrote and directed her first film in 1989 and to date she is the only woman to have been awarded a César for Best Director, alongside another one awarded for Best Screenplay Vénus Beauté (2000). She has won numerous awards and has always been a staunch defender of women's right and gender equality. Woman Up is her latest film, and her second with Emmanuelle Devos since Nearest to Heaven in 2001. It had its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival and has been selected at the Edinburgh Film Festival in the European Perspectives Strand.
