Sandra Dee, one of the biggest and briefest stars of her generation, has died of a kidney disorder aged 62. A model as a child, she graduated to films while still a teenager with The Restless Years, surf comedy Gidget, Imitation of Life and A Summer Place which saw her in a more daring role. Her private life was a troubled one, with frequent bouts of ill health and a marriage to singer Bobby Darin which ended in divorce. Other films included two of the Tammy series, A Man Could Get Killed and The Dunwich Horror, and she was immortalised in Grease with the song "Look at Me, I'm Sandra Dee".
