The nominations for the 75th Academy Awards have been announced, with no great surprises. Gangs Of New York received ten nominations (including Best Film, Best Director for Martin Scorsese and Best Actor for Daniel Day-Lewis), while Spike Jonze's Adaptation gets three (including, bizarrely, Best Adapted Screenplay... the whole point of Charlie Kaufman's script being that it's not!). Otherwise The Hours and Chicago dominate proceedings. Nice to see Japanese animation pioneer Hayao Miyazaki finally recognised (for Spirited Away), while one nominated director who won't be showing up is Roman Polankski, still wanted in the US for those underage sex charges dating back to the 70s...
