The dangers of cheap flights are highlighted in the new film, Flight Of The Phoenix, with Dennis Quaid playing cargo plane pilot Frank Towns who, with his co-pilot AJ (Tyrese Gibson), is sent to the Tan Sang Basin in Mongolia to evacuate the staff of Miranda Otto's oil exploration expedition. When a dust storm causes the plane to crash in the Gobi desert, the passengers must battle harsh conditions; heat, storms, a diminishing water supply, desert bandits and, as is so often the case, each other. But why bother? The situation looks completely futile. Futile, that is, until an eccentric passenger, Elliot (Giovanni Ribisi) comes up with a plan to build a new plane from the wreckage. A dumb idea, sure, but it just might work… it has to!
