Jude Law's a busy bloke at the moment, if he's not wooing the women in Alfie, he's an ace pilot in Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow.
If you've been living under a rock Sky Captain is an old-fashioned story of international espionage that unfolds after 1930’s New York is blitzed by an army of bizarre, flying robots. Following the revelation that the world’s most famous scientists are being kidnapped, Polly Perkins seeks the help of Sky Captain to foil the plans of an evil megalomaniac in his bid to takeover the world.
Shot entirely in front of blue screens and employing state-of-the-art visual affects, Sky Captain captures the imagination and takes the audience back in time to an era of dashing heroes and glamorous women. The gothic landscapes of pre-war New York provide a dazzling backdrop against which the cast brilliantly evoke the style and drama of the comic-book era which the film is based upon.
Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow is out on DVD from 21st February 2005, in both a 2-disc special collectors edition and vanilla single disc edition.
