French Canadian cinema's greatest workaholic strikes again
Renowned French Canadian filmmaker Xavier Dolan brings to the screen French family drama IT'S ONLY THE END OF THE WORLD, which is set for release in the UK on 24 February 2017 through Curzon Film World. The film received its World Premiere at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and received its UK Premiere at the London Film Festival in October, where it screened as a Special Presentation.
IT'S ONLY THE END OF THE WORLD boasts an incredibly talented cast including Gaspard Ulliel (A VERY LONG ENGAGEMENT, SAINT LAURENT), Marion Cotillard (RUST AND BONE, A DARK KNIGHT RISES), Léa Seydoux (SPECTRE, BLUE IS THE WARMEST COLOR), Vincent Cassel (BLACK SWAN, MY KING) and Nathalie Baye (CATCH ME IF YOU CAN, LAURENCE ANYWAYS).
Adapted from a play by Jean-Luc Lagarce, IT'S ONLY THE END OF THE WORLD explores the complicated relationships within family dynamics. After 12 years of absence, a writer, Louis (Gaspard Ulliel) goes back to his hometown, planning on announcing his terminal illness to his family. As resentment soon rewrites the course of the afternoon, fits and feuds unfold, fuelled by bitterness and fear, while all attempts of empathy are sabotaged by everyone's incapacity to listen, and love. Louis comes home to his dysfunctional family to face demons he has spent years ignoring, an angry older brother (Vincent Cassell) and his sheepish wife (Marion Cotillard), a rebel younger sister (Léa Seydoux) and a flamboyant mother (Nathalie Baye). IT'S ONLY THE END OF THE WORLD is an examination of the pain and frustration of a family on one claustrophobic hot summer afternoon.
