The inaugural prizes awarded by the Whicker's World Foundation were announced at the Sheffield Doc/Fest Award Ceremony at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield last night. Hosted by KG Tha Comedian.
The Whicker’s World Foundation, built on the legacy of celebrated journalist and broadcaster Alan Whicker who died in 2013, has awarded £100k to help support documentary makers.
Alex Bescoby from Manchester wins the £80,000 Funding Award for Burma’s Lost Royals. This is the primary focus of the Whicker’s World Foundation. And Adam Smith from Scarborough wins £10,000 runner up prize for Americaville.
In addition to the Funding Award there are two further annual prizes to recognise completed work: the ‘Audio Award’ and the ‘Vet’s Award’, the latter of which is for the finest industry newcomer over the age of fifty.
Keith Earnest Hoult, 59, from Witney, Oxon wins the Veteran's Award for Fluechtlinge – Refugee.
Catherine Fitzgerald wins the Audio Award for Little Volcanoes.
