What a picture
A captivating adaptation of J L Carr’s much loved novel, A Month in the Country tells the story of a traumatised First World War veteran Tom Birkin (compellingly portrayed by Colin Firth) who, in the summer of 1920, travels to the beautiful Yorkshire village of Oxgodby to uncover a medieval wall painting in the local church.
Previously unavailable on DVD yet highly sought after, the BFI will release A Month in the Country on DVD and Blu-ray in a Dual Format Edition on 20 June 2016. Extras include new interviews with Colin Firth and director Pat O’Connor (Cal, Circle of Friends, Dancing at Lughnasa).
Almost 30 years later, the film also offers a fascinating chance to see three now very well-known British actors at the beginning of their careers. It was Kenneth Branagh’s first film role, Colin Firth’s third film but his first leading role and the late Natasha Richardson’s second film role.
