The winner of the 2004 Melies D'Argent award at the 2004 Espoo Cine Festival in Finland is The Last Horror Movie, directed by Julian Richards who's film will now participate in the Melies D'Or competition for the Best European Fantasy Film held in Neuchatel, Switzerland in July 2005.
The jury's comments on the winning film are as follows:
'The Last Horror Movie is a film that devalues mass murder. It comments on a heavily exploited genre in a sharp manner, adding an everyday angle to it. The film challenges the viewer to consider morality and the mechanics of being entertained. Kevin Howarth's hypnotic performance in the leading role carries the entire film'.
