  Doctor Zhivago [read more]
Not the one with Sid James
An epic romance set against the backdrop of the Russian Revolution, director David Lean’s Doctor Zhivago, based on the novel by Nobel Prize-winning author Boris Pasternak and featuring a stand-out cast led by the late Omar Sharif alongside iconic British actress Julie Christie, is one of cinema’s greatest love stories. On 27 November, in celebration of the film’s 50th anniversary and as part of the BFI’s 2015 blockbuster LOVE: FILMS TO FALL IN LOVE WITH… FILMS TO BREAK YOUR HEART, in partnership with Plusnet, it will be back on the big screen in cinemas across the UK in a beautiful new 4K digital restoration.

Doctor Zhivago won 5 Academy Awards (from 10 nominations) and is the eighth most successful film of all time at the US box office[1]. ‘Lara’s Theme’, the musical motif created by composer Maurice Jarre, is one of the most recognised film themes in history and hugely contributed to the popularity of the film. With breathtaking production design by John Box and cinematography by Freddie Young, stunning and influential costumes – which inspired the “Zhivago look” – by Phyllis Dalton, and presented now just as it was originally, with play-in music and an interval, it will be the perfect classic movie to experience with family and friends at the cinema this Christmas-time. Check out the trailer above.
