Coleen Gray, an actress best known for her work in film noir, has died, it was announced today. She made her debut in Kiss of Death alongside Victor Mature and a giggling Richard Widmark, and went on to specialise in the demure, "good girl" roles that could potentially redeem the hero from then on. Other cult favourites she starred in were Nightmare Alley with Tyrone Power, Red River with John Wayne and Montgomery Clift, heist movie Kansas City Confidential, Stanley Kubrick's breakthrough The Killing, horrors The Vampire and The Leech Woman (in the title role, a rare bad girl for her), then thereafter a host of television parts until her retirement in the eighties. She was one of the last of her kind. |
