NOMINATED for ‘Best British Film’ at the BAFTAs in 1949, The Small Voice (PG) stars Howard Keel (Calamity Jane, Seven Brides For Seven Brothers) in his film debut in this supremely claustrophobic, post-war thriller. It is released on DVD on 13 July 2015, RRP £9.99, courtesy of Network’s ‘The British Film’ collection. Check out the clip above.
James Donald (The Great Escape, The Bridge On The River Kwai) and Valerie Hobson (The Bride Of Frankenstein, Great Expectations) star as a couple whose act of kindness has devastating consequences, while a young Howard Keel (billed as ‘Harold Keel’) stars as the desperate fugitive who terrorises them.
Whilst driving to their house in the Welsh hills, Murray Byrne and his wife Eleanor come across a crashed car, and take the three male occupants home with them for medical care. Then they discover that the men are armed. No one is allowed to leave the house, and the Byrnes' movements are now closely watched by their captors.
