Anita Ekberg, the former Miss Sweden who became one of the most glamorous leading ladies of her era, has died, it has been announced. Her success as a beauty queen led to a Hollywood contract where she appeared in such films as Abbott and Costello Go To Mars, Blood Alley, Artist and Models (first of a few collaborations with Jerry Lewis), War and Peace, Hollywood or Bust and Screaming Mimi, though it was her classic dance in Rome's Trevi Fountain in Federico Fellini's La Dolce Vita that made her an icon of the era's most captivating women.
After that, she spent increasing amounts of time in Italy which she made her home, appearing in Bocaccio '70 (as a giant billboard), 4 For Texas, The Alphabet Murders, Way... Way Out, Woman Times Seven, French Sex Murders, Killer Nun, and Fellini's penultimate, Intervista as herself. She had endured much hardship over recent years, but was still sought for her frank and open views on life and movies, and she will be missed. |
