Philharmonia at the Movies: Sci-Fi [read more]
  Orchestral manoeuvres is a lark
In this special Philharmonia at the Movies: Sci-Fi concert at Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall (15 October 2014, 7.30pm), the Philharmonia presents a programme of celebrated themes from some of cinema’s most popular science-fiction movies.

The evening will be hosted by film critic and national treasure Barry Norman, who will introduce the pieces and guide the audience through the music. His career spans over 50 years writing for newspaper columns and presenting flagship BBC and ITV documentaries and programmes. His most notable achievement was being the regular presenter of the BBC Film programme, starting in 1972 with Film 72, which he continued to present until 1998. It was through this that his name became known in households throughout the UK.

Philharmonia at the Movies: Sci-Fi spans the decades of music from 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) right up to Star Trek: Into Darkness (2013). It features music from some of the great film composers including John Williams (Star Wars, E.T.), John Barry (it'll be great to hear The Black Hole) and Hans Zimmer (Inception). Book your tickets at the link above.
