Greek mythology gets a futuristic sci-fi makeover in ULYSSES 31, the iconic hit animated series soon to be available on DVD for the first time. Based on Homer's literary classic The Odyssey, ULYSSES 31 transposes the tale of the legendary hero and explorer, Ulysses, to the spaceways of the 31st Century.
Returning home to Earth and his beloved wife Penelope from a mission on a spacestation orbiting the planet Troy, Ulysses finds himself waylaid when the cult worshippers of the giant robot, Cyclops, kidnap his son, Telemachus. With the help of Telemachus' pet robot, Nono, and Shyrka, the guiding computer of the spaceship Odyssey, Ulysses manages to rescue his son, along with two other prisoners, Yumi and her brother Numinor, destroying Cyclops in the process. But the rescuers' actions anger the Gods of Olympus, leading Poseidon to call on Zeus to punish Ulysses. As a result, Zeus transports Ulysses and the crew of the Odyssey to the far reaches of space, placing all but Ulysses, Telemachus and Yumi into a deep sleep, and wiping the co-ordinates of Earth's location from the ship's databanks. Now, the heroes must embark on a desperate and dangerous quest across the universe in search of the Kingdom of Hades and the gateway home.
A French-Japanese co-production written and produced by Jean Chalopin (The Mysterious Cities Of Gold; Inspector Gadget), ULYSSES 31 is regarded by fans as one of the greatest animated sci-fi series of all time.
