On 3 August the BFI launches a new strand The Adelphi Collection with the DVD and Blu-ray release of the ultra-rare 1951 films Penny Points to Paradise and Let’s Go Crazy .
Featuring Peter Sellers, Spike Milligan and Harry Secombe – celebrated cast members from The Goon Show – these post-war comedies have been unavailable for decades. Now rescued and painstakingly reconstructed and restored by the BFI National Archive, they chart the very beginnings of Peter Sellers’ extraordinary rise to international stardom and are a must-have for all vintage comedy fans.
Penny Points to Paradise sees the Goons beside the seaside in a cheap and cheerful comic escapade climaxing in a Brighton waxworks. Shot immediately afterwards, Let's Go Crazy is a madcap selection of variety turns, interspersed with zany improvised sketches by Sellers and Milligan.
