The charming French musical comedy PARIS 36 (Faubourg 36) written and directed by Christophe Barratier (Les Choristes) will be released by Pathé Distribution exclusively at the Ciné Lumière from 23 January to 4 February 2009 to celebrate the re-opening of the newly refurbished cinema.
Starring a superb French cast including Gérard Jugnot (Les Choristes, Friends Forever), Clovis Cornillac (The New Protocol, Astérix at the Olympic Games) and Kad Merad (Les Choristes, Mes Stars et Moi), PARIS 36 is a story of friendship, love and brotherhood between three friends, Pigoil, Milou and Jacky, which takes place between December 1935 and July 1936 in a working-class neighbourhood on the north-eastern edge of Paris. The springtime election of a left-wing government brings wild new hopes, yet also sees the rise of extremist ideas. After being struck head-on by unemployment, the three stage workers decide to occupy the vaudeville music hall, which is under threat of demolition, to produce a ‘hit show’ with the help of their new-found protégé, Douce. The stage is set for a short-lived but wonderful adventure…
