Fans of horror, science fiction and fantasy movies will be forever indebted to the efforts of Forrest J Ackerman, who has died of a heart attack. He coined the term "Sci-fi" and started the magazine Famous Monsters of Filmland, a reflection of his dedication to the genre that gave him so much pleasure. He was the inspiration to many working in the film industry, specifically those fantastical works that he selflessly promoted. Ackerman also made cameos in the films of those fans who had progressed to making their own films, including The Howling and Michael Jackson's Thriller video. And he never met a pun he did not like.
