The Patrice Leconte Collection on DVD
  Five French Fancies
The Patrice Leconte Collection is a fantastic five-disc box set featuring the finest films fromone of France’s most respected and versatile directors. The set comprises of: The Hairdresser’s Husband, Ridicule, Monsieur Hire, Le Parfum D’Yvonne and Tango, along with special features including a newly commissioned documentary ‘Leconte On Leconte’. It will be released on 21st July courtesy of Second Sight.

The Hairdresser’s Husband: One of the best loved French films of recent times, The Hairdresser’s Husband is an award-winning masterpiece. As a child, Antoine’s greatest pleasure is having his hair cut and he fantasises about one day marrying a hairdresser. Fantasy becomes reality when he marries Mathilde and embarks on a reclusive life of intense passion.

Ridicule: A lavish, BAFTA-winning costume drama about a poor nobleman who has a plan to rid his homeland of its disease infested swamp but needs the backing of the king, the film was also nominated for an Oscar and the Palme D’Or.

Monsieur Hire: This is a stylish psychological drama in which a girl is murdered and police are led to the reclusive Monsieur Hire. Living a mundane existence his greatest pleasure is to watch Alicein the opposite apartment. This is an enigmatic tale of love and obsession played with haunting subtlety.

Le Parfum D’Yvonne: Victor Chmara looks back at an idyllic summer in the late 1950s which he spent with the beautiful aspiring actress Yvonne and her mysterious friend Dr Meinthe. This is anintoxicating masterpiece of delicate eroticism.

Tango: On discovering his wife has a lover, amateur aviator Vincent takes drastic action by murdering them both. To his surprise he is found not guilty, aided by the sympathetic judge who takes his side and fixes the trial. This is an outrageous dark comedy from the master of black humour.
