Cyd Charisse, the glamorous and highly skilled dancer who graced the silver screen alongside Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly, has died of a suspected heart attack. Often featured as a speciality act in films like Ziegfeld Follies, Till the Clouds Roll By, The Kissing Bandit and Singin' in the Rain, she graduated to star roles in such favourites as The Band Wagon, Brigadoon, It's Always Fair Weather and Silk Stockings. She then tried life as an actress without so much dancing in the likes of Party Girl, Two Weeks in Another Town, The Silencers and Warlords of Atlantis. She was, as ever, a touch of class whatever the role. |
