M. Night Shyamalan’s new thriller THE HAPPENING starring Mark Wahlberg and Zooey Deschanel will open in cinemas across the UK and Ireland on Friday 13th, June 2008. Well known for his suspenseful story telling and intriguing plot twists, Shyamalan again explores the unknown and the inexplicable in his latest film.
When a series of unusual events begins to draw the attention of the world’s population, high school teacher Elliot Moore (Mark Wahlberg), his wife Alma (Zooey Deschanel) and their family go on the run. Their attempt to avoid becoming victims of these bizarre occurrences develops into a desperate fight for survival as an apocalyptic crisis threatens humanity.
Written, directed and produced by M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense, Signs), THE HAPPENING stars Mark Wahlberg (The Departed, I Heart Huckabees) and Zooey Deschanel (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Bridge to Terabithia), with John Leguizamo (“E.R.”, Moulin Rouge) and Spencer Breslin (The Cat in the Hat, The Kid).
The producers are Barry Mendel (Inkheart, Munich) and Sam Mercer (Jarhead, Van Helsing). Executive producers are Ronnie Screwvala (Hattrick), Zarina Screwvala (The Namesake), Roger Birnbaum (Memoirs of a Geisha), and Gary Barber (Unbreakable).
THE HAPPENING was shot by director of photography Tak Fujimoto (The Sixth Sense, Gladiator, Silence of the Lambs), and the production designer was Jeannine Claudia Oppewall (The Good Shepherd, Seabiscuit). The editor is Conrad Buff IV (Tears of The Sun, Titanic), the original score is by James Newton Howard (The Interpreter), and the costume designer is Betsy Heimann (“Prison Break”).
