Famed for her appearances in horror movies, Hazel Court, who died on Tuesday, could be prim or sultry, a heroine or villainess, but her red-haired, pale-skinned beauty always made an impression. Early films included Ghost Ship and Devil Girl from Mars, but it was with Hammer's Curse of Frankenstein that she really gained fame in the genre, following it up with The Man Who Could Cheat Death and Doctor Blood's Coffin, then three Roger Corman chillers: Premature Burial, The Raven and perhaps her most celebrated role in The Masque of the Red Death. After some television appearances, including The Twilight Zone and Mission: Impossible, she retired to concentrate on her family and another career as an artist. Her autobiography will be released this year. |
