  The Smuggler on DVD
  Vintage TV
Network will release the adventurous and swashbuckling SMUGGLER – THE COMPLETE SERIES (TBC) as a 2 – disc set on 17th March 2008, RRP £19.99.

This thrilling story is set in the early 1800s during the Napoleonic war. Jack Vincent (Oliver Tobias – Dick Turpin) is unjustly removed from the navy. He resides in a cottage on the coast and works successfully as a smuggler, living by his wits and his sword. So good is he at this job that he is never caught. Within his orbit are petty thief Honesty Evans (Hywel Williams Evans – The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover), and the gorgeous, kidnap – prone Sarah (Lesley Dunlop – Where the Heart is). Though he always avoids violence whenever possible, Vincent enjoys outwitting the British revenue officers and tweaking the nose of the French senior ranking officials by indulging in a spot of espionage. Consequently, Vincent is always pursued by the Excise Men…

The series was a huge success upon its initial transmission in 1981. With tautly – paced, wonderfully humorous scripts by Richard Carpenter (Robin of Sherwood), Bob Baker (Doctor Who) and John Kane (Dick Turpin), impeccable direction from Dennis Abey (Robin of Sherwood), Jim Goddard (Hazell) and Charles Crichton (Man in a Suitcase), this series promises much and delivers more. It is just as entertaining for adults as it is for children, and will appeal to all who enjoys quality dramas.
