Roy Scheider, one of the leading Hollywood actors of the seventies, has died of cancer at the age of 75. It was films like The French Connection, Marathon Man and especially Jaws that made him a household name, but he also put in high quality work in films such as Klute, The Seven Ups, Sorcerer, Last Embrace, and All That Jazz (Oscar-nominated as Bob Fosse's alter ego) during that decade. His star fell after that, but he continued to work steadily in notable character parts like Still of the Night, Blue Thunder, 2010, 52 Pick Up, Naked Lunch, Romeo is Bleeding and The Punisher. |
